Dorset County Council
Dorset County Council supported The Lost Words initiative in Doset through their Green Schools programme, Councillor Deborah Croney, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Education, Learning and Skills wrote:
"The Lost Words is a beautiful book, full of exquisite illustrations and evocative words, which will not only build children’s vocabulary about nature, but also ignite their imaginations. I’m delighted that there will be copies of the book in schools across the county. It’s an ideal tool for parents and teachers to use to help children understand more about the nature that lives on their doorstep, and encourage them to get out and explore our wonderful Dorset countryside.”
Likewise, in support of the initiative, Mike Harries, Corporate Director for Environment & Economy, Dorset County Council wrote:
“As someone who loves books and words I hope this book will inspire children and families to go out and track down these lost words for themselves. If you explore Dorset’s amazing countryside and green space you can find all of the wonderful creatures featured in the Lost Words, and many more.”
From 1 April 2019, Dorset Council will be an entirely new organisation and will cover the areas previously covered by Dorset County Council (except Christchurch), East Dorset District Council, North Dorset District Council, Purbeck District Council, West Dorset District Council and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.
